Insurance
Insurance (see Rules I. 13)
- Once the rules have been made available for download, you
are invited to read article I.13 "Insurance"
- Each balloon must be insured against all claims by third
parties to a minimum as stated in the EU directives.
- Minimum Requirements
The third party liability amount is depending on the Maximum Take Off Mass (MTOW)
- less than 500 kg: 750.000 SDR (~ 1.000.000 EUR)
- 500 - 1000 kg: 1.500.000 SDR (~ 2.000.000 EUR)
- 1000 - 2700 kg: 3.000.000 SDR (~ 4.000.000 EUR)
- 2700 - 6000 kg: 7.000.000 SDR (~ 9.000.000 EUR)
- Organizers will control the third party liability
insurance during
check-in.
- Passengers
People not being "Crew" are considered being passengers. You are then
obliged to have a 250.000 SDR (~ 350.000 EUR) passenger liability policy per
passenger.
Please be very careful not do to a "favour" by taking someone if you are not
properly insured. It is your responsibility!
- On-site service
If your insurance company does not provide you with enough coverage to fly
in Germany, we will be able to offer reliable and competitive additional
cover on site. We kindly ask for your information so that our
insurance-broker (VFS Heinz Gruemmer GmbH) can reply and give you a quote. If necessary or in case of
missing evidence, we are able to do this up to just minutes prior to the
General Briefing.

- Remark: The "Notice to Airmen" NfL I-68/96" requesting the
doubled coverage for "aviation events" (after the Ramstein Military Jet tragedy)
was terminated with NfL I-164/06. Therefore, only the above mentioned
insurance limits must be met.
