Germany's ballooning community

... finally, after 30 years! German ballooning enthusiasts, represented by the German Balloon Federation (Deutscher Freiballonsport-Verband DFSV) and the National Aero Club (Deutscher Aero Club DAeC) are proud to be the host for the European Championship.

In March 2005 the Fédération Aéronautique Internationale (FAI) through its International Ballooning Commission (Commission Internationale d'Aérostation CIA) granted the right to stage the event to Germany.

Stratos Ballooning will be organizing this great event. From  invitation to closing ceremony, all will be within their responsibility.

An International Team of experienced sportsmen will be managing the task-setting and the scoring of the event. They are key to a successful sporting event. We thank them all for investing time and effort to contribute to a safe and successful championship.

Germany is pleased to welcome pilots to return the friendship and joy which we enjoyed over three decades in the previous 14 European Championships.

Following the letter of the German Balloon Federation's Honorary President Mr. Walter Mueller, the Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany - Mrs. Dr. Angela Merkel - responded fast and "on spot". Please read her letter accepting the Patronage for the 15th. FAI European Hot Air Balloon Champion-ship, which

• for the first time will take place in Germany and additionally
• carries a lot of symbolism for a peaceful pilot's gathering in an area of Germany where private aviation was not allowed for more than 40 years.

We are very thankful for Mrs. Merkel's support in favour of the oldest aviation sport of the world.
